Our History and Roots in the Community

United Way Valleys’ roots trace back to the 1940s, when communities across the region formed Community Chest and Red Feather organizations—early models of collective giving and local problem-solving. In the late 1950s, New Richmond and River Falls incorporated United Funds, and by the mid-1970s, organizations in Hudson, New Richmond, and River Falls had formally affiliated with United Way of America.

In Dunn County, the United Fund of Dunn County was established in 1965 and became United Way of Dunn County in 1995, continuing a long tradition of community investment and partnership.

On July 1, 2024, United Way St. Croix Valley and United Way of Dunn County merged to form United Way St. Croix and Red Cedar Valleys (UW Valleys). Today, UW Valleys serves Burnett, Dunn, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix counties, united by a shared mission: to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our service area.
